Whittlesey Green Spaces improvements

The hard work of the Whittlesey Town Council initiative at the end of Yarwells Headland (opposite the play area) is an example of environmental and ecological improvements.

A plantation of 125 trees includes a community orchard, wildflowers, a community herb garden, and a pollination area featuring a honeybee hive.

Whittlesey Street Pride supported work, and a group of volunteers (Friends of Platinum Wood) looked after the trees and encouraged biodiversity. This is important because the area networks with other green areas to help pollinate by various insects and wildlife can thrive.

Fortunately, water is seldom far away, as the area is surrounded by interconnecting waterways. Established trees from a previous planting provide valuable mature habitats for birds, mammals, and insects.

Dog walkers and local residents enjoy the serenity that only nature can provide, and the morning chorus often features migrating birds as they explore the fenland washlands. The beauty of these green spaces is something we can all appreciate and feel connected to.
