Should we move?

The home we live in might be perfect for the family (or individual) needs at one time but it might be unsuitable at another. The size, layout and number of rooms is one aspect – the location in terms of how close to work, schooling and family may be another, or maybe the garden is too big, or too small, maybe the busy road or noisy neighbourhood does not line up with your priorities.

Moving home could be viewed as moving up, downsizing or something similar – just not the current one. Housing is a complex area.

Often a mortgage is required, but not in all cases, there may be taxes to pay – particularly if the home you are selling is not your main residence. Some people do not need to sell one home in order to buy a new one – what is the best option – renting it out, transferring it to another family member, refurbishing it – the list goes on.

Sometimes people have significant wealth tied up in their property, particularly after the children have left home and the home is used by just 2 people as they approach retirement – what are the options for releasing the equity that has built up in their home – should they downsize? Is Inheritance Tax an aspect that should be tackled sooner rather than later?

Sometimes you just need to know what all the options are so that you can make an informed decision – I can help you with that.
